Venkat Venkatasubramanian Elected to the National Academy of Engineering
CUAFA member, Venkat Venkatasubramanian, Samuel Ruben-Peter G. Viele Professor of Engineering, have been elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. Election to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) represents one of the most prestigious professional honors bestowed upon an engineer.
Venkatasubramanian was elected as part of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) cohort comprising 128 new members and 22 international members, as announced on February 11.
Venkat Venkatasubramanian is a leading authority in AI-driven process fault diagnosis, safety, pharmaceutical engineering, and materials design. His pioneering research has significantly influenced theory, industry, and the profession. His highly cited works, including three landmark papers on process safety (2003) and a 2019 AI-focused paper, are considered foundational in chemical engineering.
Recognized for his contributions, he received AIChE’s Computing in Chemical Engineering Award (2009), was named an AIChE Fellow (2011), and in 2024, was honored with AIChE’s William H. Walker Award, the institute’s most prestigious accolade. His 2017 book, How Much Inequality is Fair?, explores the mathematical principles of economic fairness.
